Colossus ride8/12/2023 But Colossus will always be chosen on this factor. However, it doesn’t feel too much of a slog to queue for it and during the opening day, the throughputs did begin to speed up. Which is never outstanding in my opinion. You may have gathered already but SIK does operate on a one-train service. Throughputs:Ĭolossus on the busier days runs two trains and as much as the throughputs don’t quite correlate to the other coasters at Thorpe Park it is a massive advancement on SIK. Of course, I prefer SIKs but would love to see Colossus receive moderately identical restraints in the future. Whereas SIK is a lap bar which opens up the ride layout a lot more & we found it to be a lot more forgiving too. Colossus has broad and bulky overhead restraints which do influence the ride a lot but also formulate issues for those who are tall & have long legs. A fundamental difference is the restraints. The leg room continues to be an issue it is better on the front of the individual carriages but that goes for both of these coasters. I don’t necessarily prefer one over the other on the station & theming points either because they both offer worlds apart experiences. It has its own themed audio which adds to the surrounding area too. It just feels so good to be in that station I guess it comes down to the brightly coloured flags, the fact the walls aren’t vanilla & the music is bouncy, of course not themed but that’s alright.Ĭolossus has beautifully themed the attention to detail station. That being said I enjoy the upbeat & positive vibes that SIK gives off. Theming isn’t a thing for SIK it is more or less style. Therefore, I don’t think either of them is better than the other in this thing. Whereas Colossus feels more spread out & uses the landscape to its advantage with the airtime hills into the tunnels etc. SIK feels somewhat compact to the area and the colour scheme is one I find visually attractive. I find the two of them to be elegant off-ride both for many reasons. So, here is my verdict & please know this is based on my experience & opinions on both. Thorpe Park doe however also address this too stating that “We have no plans to replace the current trains or restraints. It’s going to be another Nemesis vs Nemesis Inferno type of debate, right? A question which is or will be on everyone’s lips is the title of this blog for sure! I’ll confess the fact it was also the question I had when before riding too. We hope this will provide a smoother ride experience.”Īlthough the track will certainly play a role in the overall ‘smoothness’ of the ride, many have stated that the main issue lies with the ride’s ‘uncomfortable’ trains and their restraints. Going on to discuss the reason behind their choice to retrack the ride Thorpe Park state “The new track will prolong the life of Colossus so ‘it’ll never leave you’. Taziker are well known as being the company responsible for fabricating The Big One’s new track, therefore it would seem only fitting that the firm would also be suited to completing the Colossus retrack too.įurther more, in a recent update by an eagle eyed theme park enthusiast some of Colossus’ old track was spotted onsite in the companies car park. It is also rumoured that Colossus’ new track will also be manufactured and fabricated by none of other than Lancashire based engineering contractors Taziker. This reveals that the works are expected to follow an identical format to that of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s ongoing Big One retrack. We hope to have Colossus operational throughout.” “We have kicked off a re-tracking project, this will continue over a number of closed seasons. The park firstly discuss how they expect the retrack work to take place Since happening, fans of the ride have become increasingly more curious as to what they can expect and how long the ride will take to retrack.įinally, after months of asking however Thorpe Park shared an official update of their annual pass holder group stating “We’ve had a lot of questions about Colossus, so here is all the info we have”. The Colossus retrack was first revealed to be happening by the park in a TikTok reel in which images of the vacant track was shared alongside a rather catchy quote. Like Nemesis at Alton Towers, it is hoped that the Colossus retrack will help secure the Intamin Multi-Inversion roller coaster’s future with the park & will ensure that future generations can experience “The Power of 10” too. Since doing so however it’s fair to say that the ride has become increasingly more rough with each and every year that has passed. The Colossus retrack is happening and after months of speculation by enthusiasts, Thorpe Park Resort finally revealed the works were underway to retrack the park’s iconic 10 inversion roller coaster.Ĭolossus first opened at the park back in 2002 and at the time of opening took the world record for most inversions featured on any roller coaster anywhere in the world.
